AISI H11 Steel Round Bar Sheet Plate, DIN 1.2343, JIS SKD6

H11 steel also is called DIN 1.2343 and JIS SKD6 steel. 1.2343 steel is the air-cooling type hot work mold steel. It is one of the three most commonly used of hot work mold steel in the European die-casting industry. The carbide is small and distributed uniformly in steel. H11 tool steel has great cold and heat fatigue resistance, corrosion resistance, hot and cold processing performance and hardenability. 1.2343 Steel Application


The application is decided by DIN 1.2343 steel chemical composition and properties. Some application of 1.2343 steel as below:

1.Hot punches
2.Forging dies
3.Hot shear blades
4.Hot gripper dies
5.Extrusion tooling

1.2343 tool steel is used for highly stressed structural parts such as aircraft landing gear. And it is suitable for high-speed hammer forging molds. Such as aluminum and magnesium alloy hot forging die, and its hardness always is 42-50HRC. Black metal forging molds, hardness is 40-50HRC. At the situation of hot work die steel with a high risk of cracking, 1.2343 steel is the best choice. The mold useful time that made of 1.2343 steel can be 1.5-3 times that of AISI L6 steel.

1.2343 Steel Characteristics

1.The toughness of 1.2343 steel is higher than H13 steel. It needs to heat treatment. And the hardness of general application is 50-54HRC.

2.Widely used for the insert parts of the mold.

3.High hardness and toughness, meeting many requirements of hot work mold steel.

4.The main components are chromium, molybdenum and vanadium, 1.2343 steel is smelted by the electroslag remelting process.

H11 Steel Round Bar Plate Sheet Heat Treatment

The machinability rate of 1.2343 tool steels is nearly 75% of that of the W group tool steels.

1.2343 tool steels are formed by using conventional methods, machining and forging.

1.2343 tool steels can be readily welded by conventional methods.

4.Heat Treatment
1.2343 tool steels are preheated to 816°C (1500°F). Then the steels are directly heated by increasing the temperature to 1010°C (1850°F) followed by holding for 15 to 40 mins. The steels are then air-quenched.

1.2343 tool steels are forged at 1121°C (2050°F). For this type of steels, forging below 899°C (1650°F) is not preferable.

6.Cold Working
Cold working may be carried out on 1.2343 tool steels using conventional methods.

1.2343 tool steels are annealed at 871°C (1600°F) and slowly cooled at 4°C (40°F) in the furnace.

Tempering is carried out on 1.2343 tool steels at a temperature ranging from 538 to 649°C (1000 to 1200°F) to obtain Rockwell C hardness of 54 to 38. Double tempering can also be performed in these steels every one hour at the preferred tempering temperature.
