AISI 5140 Steel Coil, JIS SCr440, DIN 1.7035

AISI 5140 steel is a widely used high-quality alloy structural steel, containing chromium carbides that are not easily dissolved, including round steel, steel plate and steel coil. The hardenability of AISI 5140 steel coil is good, this steel is suitable for cyanidation and induction hardening treatment in addition to quenching and tempering treatment. It is widely used in mechanical manufacturing industries, vehicles, engines and gears and other stressed parts that require hard wear-resistant surfaces. 5130 steel composition and more information is below.

AISI 5140 Steel Coil Application

5140 steel is one of the most popular steel grades in the industry. After Q+T heat treatment, it is usually used to make various mechanical parts. Such as gears, shafts of machine tools, steering knuckles of automobiles, spline shafts, worms, etc. It is also used to manufacture parts that are subjected to high load, impact and moderate speed work, and parts with high surface hardness and wear resistance, etc.

ASTM 5140 Steel Coil Characteristics

1. After quenching and tempering, 40Cr steel can obtain good comprehensive mechanical properties and good low temperature impact toughness.
2. The hardenability is very good, and the machinability is also very good.
3. Easy processing, good toughness and plasticity.
4. High hardness and very wear-resistant.
5. High heat resistance
6. More sensitive to mechanical and heat treatment than carbon steel

AISI 5140 Steel Heat Treatment

1. SAE 5140 Noramlizing
Temperature: 840-880℃.
Welding is generally performed in the annealed (normalized) state.

2. Steel Grade 5140 Annealing
Heat slowly to 680-720°C and allow enough time for the steel to fully heat, then cool slowly in the furnace. Alloy steel will get MAX 241HB (Brinell hardness).

3. Hardening Of 5140 Alloy Structural Steel
Heat slowly to 820-860°C, then quench in water or oil after soaking well at this temperature. Temper the tool as soon as it reaches room temperature.

4. 5140 Steel Materials Tempering
Tempering at 550~570℃ .

5140 Steel Forging

Hot forming temperature: 1050-850℃

Initial forging temperature: 1150℃

Final forging temperature: 850℃

Forging ratio: above 4:1

Post-forging treatment: 5140 steel should be slowly cooled in sand.
